Argyle pink diamonds are acquired by private consultation at our Cottesloe atelier: provenance verified, grading explained, and the setting made in our own workshop.
An Argyle pink diamond is a natural pink diamond from the Argyle mine in the East Kimberley, which for nearly four decades produced over 90% of the world's pink diamond supply. The mine ceased production in 2020 and no comparable source has replaced it, so the pinks available today come from existing holdings. That is the whole investment case in one sentence: finite supply, enduring demand.
Colour runs from soft blush through rose to rare, vivid purplish pinks, and unlike most coloured diamonds the exact cause of the hue is still not fully understood. For a Perth workshop, these stones are more than rare gems; they are local history, and setting one here keeps the story in Western Australia.
We do not keep a display case of pink diamonds, and we will not pretend otherwise. Fine Argyle pinks are acquired to a brief: you sit down with us in Cottesloe, we talk through colour, scale, budget and intent, and the stone is then selected and inspected by hand, the way we select any natural diamond for a commission. You examine it in natural light, with its documentation, before anything is committed.
Pink diamonds vary enormously in how their colour presents: some glow warmly, others lean cooler or more purplish. Seeing the actual stone, rather than a photograph of one, is not a formality. It is the decision.
Origin decides value, so documentation comes first. A genuine Argyle pink should carry clear evidence of its origin, and Argyle developed its own colour grading scale for these stones, with the vivid and deep purplish pinks the rarest of all. Colour is king; clarity, cut and carat still matter, but they follow.
We read the paperwork with you line by line and tell you plainly what it does and does not prove. If a stone cannot demonstrate its provenance, we say so before price is even discussed.
Once the stone is right, the ring or pendant is designed and made under one roof: sketches and CAD until the design feels right, then fabrication, setting and finishing at the Cottesloe bench. Most commissions are ready within four to eight weeks of an approved design.
