Sapphire is the coloured stone we recommend most often for an engagement ring. At 9 on the Mohs scale it is second only to diamond, hard enough for decades of daily wear, and it is the same mineral as ruby: corundum, in every colour except red. Classic blue leads the collection, and the stone also occurs in pinks, yellows, teals and whites for a ring that feels genuinely individual.
The rings here are made in our own workshop: halo and trilogy designs, art deco and claw set pieces, most in 950 platinum or 18ct gold, many carrying Ceylon sapphires. Colour saturation, windowing and how a stone performs in daylight decide more than any listing can show, so we put sapphires side by side in natural light before anything is settled. Significant stones may carry an independent laboratory report, and we discuss openly what is known about origin and treatment; heating is common and accepted for many sapphires.
If the right ring is not in the collection, we design it. A bespoke sapphire engagement ring follows the same path as our diamond commissions: a conversation about your story and budget, sketches and CAD until the design feels right, then the stone selected and set under one roof in Cottesloe. Most commissions are ready within four to eight weeks of an approved design.
Colour only settles in person. Book an engagement appointment in Cottesloe and compare sapphires beside diamonds in natural light before you decide.
