Let me walk you through what actually happens when you bring a piece to our Cottesloe workshop — the assessment, the honest quote, and the timing — so there are no surprises.

Your jewellery stays on site

The first thing to know is that your piece never leaves our premises. Repairs, resizing, setting, restringing and plating are all carried out in our Cottesloe workshop by our own jewellers — not posted away to a third party. It's assessed, worked on and kept securely here until you collect it.

For many people, that's the deciding factor. A piece with sentimental value shouldn't disappear into a courier bag; it should be cared for by hands you can meet, in a place you can visit.

The assessment comes first

Before any work begins, we examine your piece under magnification and explain what we find in plain terms. A loose stone might be a worn claw; a broken chain might need laser soldering; a ring that no longer fits might need resizing — or a design adjustment if it's an intricate setting.

You'll know what we recommend and why, and what the alternatives are. Sometimes the honest advice is that a repair is straightforward; occasionally it's that a piece needs more than a quick fix. Either way, you hear it before anything is touched.

An honest quote, up front

You receive a transparent quote before work begins — no surprises when you collect. Most repairs are modest in cost; more involved restoration is priced after we've assessed the piece, and we'll tell you honestly whether the work is worthwhile.

Timing is confirmed at the same point. Simple repairs and resizing can often be turned around relatively quickly; more complex restoration or remodelling is scheduled properly, and we'll give you a realistic timeframe rather than an optimistic one.

Common repairs we see every week

Most of what comes through the workshop falls into a handful of familiar categories — all routine for a working jeweller:

• Ring resizing — up or down, preserving the finish and setting
• Claw re-tipping and re-setting of loose stones
• Chain and clasp repairs, including laser soldering
• Rhodium plating to restore white gold's bright finish

The same standard as our own pieces

Repair work in our workshop is held to the same standard as the jewellery we make from scratch — because it's done by the same jewellers, at the same benches. A repair should be invisible: you should get your piece back looking as though nothing ever happened, wearing securely and comfortably.
